Headlight Timer
I built this one-shot timer to address the problem of leaving my lights on in my truck. It's a diesel and has two large batteries but even that doesn't matter when BOTH batteries go dead together. I wanted something small because of tight space constraints behind the dash(it's a '91 GMC). I came up with using a 555 timer IC with surface mount components. Instead of using perfboard I just soldered it all together on the IC. I don't have pictures of the packaged assembly. What I did was solder on one foot leads and encapsulate the entire piece in hot melt glue. The only problem was that it was so small that I lost it! Some day I think I'll make another. I should have put a quarter in the picture for scale. For those who are not familar with the size of an 8-pin DIP IC, it will fit on a dime or nickel completely.
